What is Our Approach to Post Operative Rehabilitation?

We understand that surgery and the need for post operative rehabilitation isn’t someone’s first choice when it comes to injury management, however sometimes surgery is the best option.

Nonetheless, studies have shown that it may take between 6 weeks to 12 months to obtain optimal function post operation.

When you work with Aret Chiropractic in North Ryde, we use a graded program of specific exercises and goals individualised to your case as you progress through different stages of healing.

Another important fact which must be considered is that after surgery, you may not be able to obtain 100% function at the post operative joint, ligament or tendon, which in some cases may be normal, but we will try to get you as close to 100% as possible.

You Ask, We Answer

Post operative rehabilitation is the process of helping a patient recover and regain function after surgery. The main goals being reduction in pain, swelling and inflammation, restoration of strength and motion, prevent complications like blood clots (by keeping it mobile) and returning the normal activities of living, work and sports. Chiropractic care will not only focus on the operated joint but will also address any imbalances along the whole biomechanical chain for example if someone has a hip surgery then we may focus on the lower back, knees and ankles too. We combine our specific exercises with hands on therapy to help accelerate recovery and try to get you back to pre injury function.

Anybody who has had any kind of joint surgery.

Restoration of proper joint mechanics to help reduce pain and improve function so you can return to doing what you want to again.

All types of surgeries including but not limited to the spine, hips, knees, ankles, hips, elbows, wrists and shoulders.

We tend to prescribe specifically selected exercises to help you return back to function as soon as physically possible. We may then rely on hands on therapy to take the exercises to the next level.

There are often no risks associated as we are following the surgical team’s recommendations. If there are any complications after the surgery then this will be taken into consideration when formulating your specific rehabilitation plan.
